Superintendent Hansel Marantan who was the principal suspect in the “rubout” event, which claimed the lives of 12 people in 2013, will be permitted to resume his duties as a police officer, the Philippine National Police confirmed on Monday.
At the time, Marantan was in charge of a roadblock operation, and the officers involved were discharged from the military the following year after being discovered to have engaged in serious misconduct. Marantan recently received approval for his request to have the National Police Commission consider his case, and the panel then issued a directive ordering the reinstatement of Marantan and his 12 coworkers.
The chief of the Philippine National Police, Director General Ronald Dela Rosa, asserted that he did not consent to return Marantan and that the decision was the outcome of an appeals procedure. On the other hand, Marantan thinks the operation against Siman was justified.
Earlier this year, the court approved posting a $300,000 bond for Marantan and his co-defendants.
