Gen Jesus Durante, head of the Presidential Security Group under Rodrigo Duterte, is one of the persons of interest in the murder of businesswoman-model Yvonette Chua Plaza.
Durante, a native of Davao, graduated from the 1992 class of the Philippine Military Academy Tanglaw Diwa.
He has a master’s degree in public management with a concentration in development security from the Development Academy of the Philippines and in defense analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School in California, both in the United States.
Durante, a “full-blooded Scout Ranger,” was in charge of the 1st Scout Ranger Regiment’s 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion, which was stationed in Mindanao. In 2003, he was given the Cavalier Award for Army Operations by the PMA Alumni Association.
Additionally, he participated as a military observer in the 2007 UN operation in Wau, South Sudan.
On February 24, 2020, former president Rodrigo Duterte nominated Durante as PSG commander.

In December 2020, Durante admitted liability for the misuse of unlicensed COVID-19 vaccinations. Personnel who worked as close security for Duterte were given the vaccine by themselves.
Franklin Drilon, the minority leader in the Senate at the time, demanded that Durante be called in to account for the misuse of the vaccine. According to an Inquier.net story, Drilon later declared that inviting Durante was no longer essential.
Both the civil and military investigations into Durante and company would move forward simultaneously, according to Lieutenant General Romeo Brawner Jr., head of the Philippine Army.

Brawner noted that further research will be done to ascertain whether the cops working under Durante were directed to commit the murder.
