Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour was employed at Franklin Ellis Architects while he was a resident of the UK. He worked at SISA, Cliff Consulting (now known as Building Partnership CCP), and Patrick Wayi after returning to Nigeria before fully entering politics.
In the 2019 senate race, he ran as a PDP candidate to represent Lagos West. One of the key objectives of his campaign was to unseat the incumbent, whom he described as an “absentee senator spending more money pursuing a useless governorship bid in Ogun State, rather than focusing on Lagos West that has already given him their mandate.”
Adeola “Yayi” Olamilekanola, the current senator and candidate for the former ruling party APC, came in second in the final results with 323,817 votes to his 243,516. Adeola received 41.38% of the votes, while Rhodes-Vivour received 39.40%.
In court, he contested the results, claiming that violence and interruptions to the voting process should have prevented it from being upheld. But, the court ruled that wasn’t enough and upheld his rival’s election.
He is running for governor of Lagos State in the upcoming 2023 election on behalf of the Labour party. Before the primary election, he quickly withdrew his name from consideration as a PDP candidate.
He changed parties to the Labour party and participated in the substitute election when the party’s real candidate was to be selected. With 111 votes, he defeated Moshood Salvador, the former leader of the All Progressives Party (APC), who received 102 votes.
